Anxiety Is Not Something That Has To Control You


When you first start to feel anxiety you can be puzzled. This is because you don’t know what’s going on, and then out of nowhere you realize you’re plagued with anxiety in your life. If you are feeling like anxiety is creeping up on you then keep reading and figure out how to get rid of it.

Breathe easy. When you start to feel anxious, try to concentrate on breathing correctly. Inhale through your nostrils for about two seconds, and then exhale through parted lips for four seconds. Continue this routine for a full minute. Once your breathing gets back to normal, follow it up with a couple of minutes of soothing, positive self-talk.

Anxiety is damaging to your health and your regular health routine should always include ways to reduce your daily dose of anxious feelings. Set aside a few minutes each day that can be used to take care of your own well-being. The focus of this time should be doing something that gives you joy.

Starting a gratitude journal can go a long way in helping you cope with your anxiety. Write down things you are thankful for each day, and elaborate as much as you can. This gives you things to refer back to when you are dealing with your anxiety. A journal can really help you focus on what is most important during these times.

Learn to exaggerate your fears. This may sound crazy, but it has been proven to work. If you are afraid you will trip when walking down the stairs at an event, imagine yourself not only tripping, but rolling all the way down the staircase and taking other people down with you. Make it a funny, extreme mental picture, and you will feel your anxiety melt away quickly.

To help control your anxiety, try to find the things or people that make you laugh the most. This could include watching a comedy movie, reading a funny book, or simply telling jokes with friends. You will find your anxiety to be much more controlled when you feel more joyful.

Reduce the anxiety in your life by learning to say no to situations that cause you stress. There is no reason to feel that you must be available to fulfill every request that is asked of you. Learn not to accept responsibility for more than you are able to handle comfortably.

Exercise. Get into doing some sort of daily exercise routine. Go for a walk or a run, join the gym, or buy a workout DVD that you do each day. This extra activity releases dopamine and seratonin into your body, boosts your mood and your oxygen levels. All of these things work together to keep you healthier, happier and less stressed.

Getting rid of anxiety is a matter of time, and it’s different for everybody. Some people can get rid of their anxiety in a matter of weeks, while it takes months for others. Yet it is possible to overcome, as long as you stay strong in apply what you know on how to get rid of it, when you do that it’s gone before you know it.
